Orphaned at a very early age in an intentional suicidal car crash, Beth survives and starts living in an orphanage at the age of 9. Beth learns how to play chess from the janitor of the orphanage. She becomes obsessed with the game and starts joining tournaments after being adopted by Alma. The series shows Beth’s development of chess carrier and her personal struggles.
