About Monsieur Gerald Charles Genta;
Monsieur Gerald Charles Genta was born in Geneva in 1931. Since his early youth, he had taken interest in artistic disciplines such as painting and sculpture. At the end of his puberty, he met the world of haute jewelry and there he explored the art of design that will soon become his greatest passion.
At his 23, he designed the Polerouter model, a design legend, for Universal Geneva.
Here are a few of his most famous works:
Royal Oak for Audemars Piguet in 1972, Nautilus for Patek Philippe in 1976
Bvlgari Bvlgari and Bvlgari Roma for Bulgari at the early 1980s. And he also contributed to the designs of Cartier Pasha, IWC Ingenieur, Patek Philippe Gold Ellipse.
Being beyond their ages and staying iconic forever are the common features of Monsieur Genta’s designs. Monsier Genta has been recognized as the world-renowned watch designer and referred by many as the Maestro.
In 1969, Monsieur Genta established his first brand “Gerald Genta”. This brand was sold to BVLGARI at the end of 1990s and later, in the early 2000s, when he was at the peak of his success, Monsieur Genta rolled his sleeves and got down to work for a new brand, the most modern and daring one of his brands: “Gerald Charles”. The eponymous naming of his newly-established brand represented the personal bond he forged with his brand.
The famous designer created some of his most modern watches for the Maison of Gerald Charles. The “Maestro” collection is one of his greatest successes. 4 different models in the Maestro collection are:
And last but not least, this one which we will mention in details:
Established in 2000, the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2020 with a Limited Edition model.
The number of the limited edition with 252 pieces comes from the period of 252 months between January 2000 and December 2020, and a month & year information is engraved at the back of each piece. Therefore you can buy any watch with a date special for you.
Let’s first talk about the case that Monsieur Genta exclusively designed for the Gerald Charles brand.
With a downward curve on the bottom edge of the octagonal case, a smile, so to speak, is added. All the lines on the case are rounded it is completely high-polished. A sapphire crystal is used both at the face and back. And the model has a water resistance of 100m.
The Limited Edition model differs from other models in that this model has a steel case, whereas the other models in the Maestro Collection have been produced from precious metals till now. In addition, while all the models have been offered till now with a leather strap, a rubber strap is used this model for the first time. The rubber strap is also another original Genta design and inspired by the Egyptian pyramids. The strap comes with a folding buckle with the brand’s name engraved on the two-piece polished steel. The combination of steel case-rubber strap has added the watch a quite sportive ambience. Indeed, when we look at the previous designs of Genta, what we see is an elegant sportiness. Just like the way it was with Royal Oak and Nautilus.
The dial is in a matte black color and contributes to the sporty structure of the watch. The hours, minutes and seconds hands resemble, in design, the hands set used in Royal Oak. At 3, 9 and 12 o’clock, Arabic numeral indices are applied, whereas baton indexes are applied at the remaining hours. All indexes are treated with SuperLuminova. And at 6 o’clock, large date windows are placed. A fine detail here is that in the single-digit dates a zero is used for the first digit, instead of leaving it blank. Just below the large date windows are placed the inscriptions of 20th Anniversary, and SWISS MADE.
If we speak of the technical features of the caliber fitted;
With a 26,2mm diameter and 5,1mm height, at the heart of the reference GCA19-00A model beats the automatic GCA131-9391 caliber. With 27 jewels, the machine offers a 42-hours power reserve operating at 28,800vph. While the mainplate has a perlage finish, on the gold-plated rotor is used the Cotes de Geneve pattern.
On the archives of the company is registered such a statement by Monsieur Genta: ‘We want to be a niche company producing a limited number of watches in an artisan way.’
Being one of the latest and most radical designs of Monsieur Genta, this model has been sprung to life at the hands of the company he had personally established.
And last of all, the price of the watch is USD 10,085. If you buy the watch for this price, it is stated that the 30% of the amount shall be donated to the World Health Organization as part of the struggle with the CoVid-19.
