The new sports watch from A.Lange & Söhne
The case, in stainless steel, measures 40.5mm x 11.1mm. The button at 2 o’clock switches the date while the one at 4 o’clock adjusts the day of the week. Both are tapered and sealed to ensure water resistance. The screw-down crown, bearing the Lange letters, is placed between them. It has double sapphire crystals and it is water resistant to 120 meters.
Movement is the new German automatic Lange in-house caliber L155.1 Datomatic with 31 jewels. It is the first Lange caliber to beat at 28,800 vph. It has a platinum rotor and a power reserve of 50 hours. Four countersunk poising screws for regulating the movement dominate the design of the balance wheel. This arrangement reduces turbulence despite the higher frequency. The resulting minimised air resistance and the freely oscillating balance spring made in-house have a positive impact on the movement’s rate accuracy and energy efficiency. The rotor surface is coated in black rhodium with a hand-engraved wave pattern adorning the balance wheel bridge. Also visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the screwed gold chaton, a typical Lange hallmark. It has a flat-polished whiplash spring, Perlage finish on the frame parts, and Glashütte ribbing on the three-quarter plate, with chamfered edges.
The newly developed large-format date-and-day mechanism of the Odysseus ensures particularly good readability. It is driven by the hour wheel, which rotates once every 12 hours and is connected to the 24-hour wheel. This wheel controls the day of the week. At the same time, a programme wheel is driven, which controls the advancing of the units ring and the tens element of the date. Although this part of the movement is not visible, all components are decorated with the same care and attention to detail using different finishing techniques. This is part of their philosophy and passion for crafting perfect timepieces.
It comes on an integrated stainless-steel bracelet with a safety deployant buckle. It features a length adjuster of seven millimetres. The adjustment can be done in small steps by pressing the pusher embossed with the Lange signature.
