We have all celebrated the new year with great enthusiasm a few days ago after a very tough year full of catastrophic events.
As most people are very familiar with this fact, the Chinese calendar is quite different from the calendar we use. They use a calendar system including twelve animals, one for each year in succession. Year of the Ox will start on 12th February in Chinese Calendar.
For this special time period, Chopard has introduced two timepieces: L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen and L.U.C XP Urushi Year of The Ox.
Limited to 88 pieces, L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen features traditional western calendar system with the classic complications of hours and minutes. However, there is another complication on the dial which includes twelve two-hour units. Each unit is symbolized by an animal from the Chinese Calendar and one full circle of the signs starts with Rat and finishes with Pig. The signs are located between 10 and 2 o’clock on a rotating disc under the dial.
As to the technical details, the rose gold case has the measurements of 40mm X 8.28mm. There are sapphire crystals on the front and back of the watch. There are applied rose-gold baton indexes and numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock on the black dial. The model is water-resistant up to 30 meters. Powered by in-house automatic calibre L.U.C 96.29-L, it has 65 hours of power reserve.
This specific model comes with a black leather strap. The price is EUR 37,800.
The second model introduced by the brand is L.U.C XP Urushi Year of The Ox. It is also limited to 88 pieces. Unlike L.U.C XP Urushi Spirit of Shí Chen, this timepiece does not have the Chinese calendar complication. It has the classical complications of hours and minutes. What distinguishes this model is the craftsmanship. Chopard collaborated with Japanese artisans to create its dial in the traditional Urushi lacquer technique. The dial is engraved with golden ox harnessed to a wagon which does not only symbolize the agricultural values but also the majestic power of the emperor.
As to the technical details, the rose gold case has the measurements of 39.5mm X 6.80mm. There are sapphire crystals on the front and back of the watch. The model is water-resistant up to 30 meters. Powered by in-house automatic calibre L.U.C 96.29-L, it has 65 hours of power reserve.
This specific model comes with a black leather strap. The price is EUR 24,500.
