1940s and 50s was a revolutionary period for product designs since aerodynamic principles were just beginning to take root. Rounded forms started to be more distinguished against the angular designs. This radical change also influenced the watch designs.
Inspired by the dynamic profiles of automotive and aviation mid-century design, HM9 Flow treads the path opened by the HM4 Thunderbolt and HM6 Space Pirate, with a geometrically complex combination of sapphire crystal, titanium and gold case elements. However, MB & F with its latest model called Horological Machine N°9 goes beyond its predecessors, redefining the case design.
Reminiscent of a jet engine, the highly complex case features twin balance wheels beating independently on each flank. The central body unveils the beautiful movement to the wearer.
The ‘Air’ edition with aviation-style dial has titanium or 18k red gold case and NAC-finish movement. The ‘Road’ edition which also has bronze or 18k case features speedometer dial and gold-finished movement or rhodium-plated movement.
SV editions in sapphire crystal have18k 5N+ red gold frame with a black or blue movement; and 18k white gold frame with red gold plated or purple movement
The dimensions of the case for all versions are 57mm x 47mm x 23 mm. Titanium version includes 43 components; red gold version includes components; and SV editions include 52 components. All versions are water resistant up to 30 meters and they all have anti-reflective coated sapphire crystals.
The functions of the watch are hours and minutes on vertical dial display and dual spherical propellers under the balance wheels. Built with 301 components, the movement with 52 jewels work at the frequency of 18,000 bph and has 45 hours of power reserve.
The price of the model is CHF 420,000
