Born as a chronometer in 1952 and being one of the oldest collections of OMEGA, the Constellation collection has been fully revamped. OMEGA has been reinventing the models in its main product range in order to take them to new levels in terms of perfection and precision. These renewals are stemming from the brand’s philosophy advocating that the search for perfection is a never ending adventure.
Revamped as the fifth-generation, the Constellation (gents’) collection has undergone some exciting updates. In the 39mm models, you have exactly 26 choices that you may combine among 18k yellow gold, 18k Sedna ™ gold and stainless steel. All the materials are crafted as to give a feeling of refined luxury and elegance.
Let’s have a brief look at the renovations:
Hands and indices designed with an inspiration from New York’s Freedom Tower
The redesigned indices and the hands set take inspiration from the freedom Tower, erected in place of the wrecked World Trade Center buildings. Especially the indices reflect, at a higher level, this inspiration taken from the triangular surfaces of the Tower.
Slimmed down bezel and redesigned Roman numerals.
Designed with the aim of a more modern and more elegant look, the Roman numerals and the slimmer bezel have been a bang-up update and took the timepiece to the level of contemporary aesthetics.
Polished and beveled edges along the case, the bracelet and the ‘claws’
The mostly satin finished model has polished bevels linking the upper and lower surfaces. As well as subtly emphasizing the lines of the watch, it also adds the effect of splendor required.
Slimming down ‘claws’ exquisitely embracing the case.
The claws, with which we got acquainted firstly in 1982 in the Constellation ‘Manhattan’ collection, had then a function to ensure the water resistance by holding the sapphire crystal and the gasket in place. A modern look is achieved by slimming down the claws positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock for just aesthetic goals nowadays.
Redesigned conical crown.
The new design crown has a conical form with polished sides and features an OMEGA logo on its satin finished top.
Bracelet with new mid-bar links .
On the redesigned bracelet, new mid-bar links have been used. The bevels, linking the satin finished surfaces crafted with perfect workmanship, are polished and thus adding splendor to the timepiece.
Master Chronometer.
Last but not least, the renovated models are updated to the level of a Master Chronometer that sets the highest standards in terms of precision, performance and magnetic resistance. Due to this update, we have been provided with a protection against the magnetic fields surrounding us in our daily life. (Mobile phones, x-ray devices, etc.)
Milestones:
Although the OMEGA Constellation had been launched in 1952, its current silhouette has been based on the ‘Manhattan’ series launched in 1982. With its barrel-shaped case, its claws over the bezel and its integrated bracelet, Manhattan was the real ancestor of the present series.
In 1995, the second-generation Constellation series followed, with a softer and round line. The most important feature in this collection was the removal of the Roman numerals from the dial to the bezel.
The solid Double Eagle and the elegant Constellation ’09 have been introduced in 2003 and 2009 respectively.
Last words and the Prices:
Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann, the President and CEO of OMEGA, says: ‘Men who wear OMEGA timepieces expect sophistication and excellence. These new Constellation models deliver these exact qualities and much more. They are a testament to our history and our innovation, as well our constant pursuit for refinement.’
As the Watchmania team, we really think that the updates to the Constellation are the product of a refined luxury. Born in the 80s, the design has been taken to the level of contemporary aesthetics with the new models.
