DIETRICH SKIN DIVER (SD-1) COLLECTION

DIETRICH Watches (“DIETRICH”) has recently undergone a metamorphosis, a move to expand the creative boundaries of Emmanuel DIETRICH, the founder and designer of DIETRICH. From now on, DIETRICH will solely focus all its design efforts on reinterpreting the templates of iconic watches from the past, whereas a new space called ATELIER will be launched with the sole intention of allowing Emmanuel Dietrich to explore new creative frontiers with no boundaries.

On 5th April 2021, DIETRICH revealed their newest creation, the Skin Diver 1 Collection (SD-1). This marks DIETRICH’s first foray into the brand’s new creative direction for the new decade and beyond.

The SD-1 was conceived primarily with ergonomics, balance and symmetry in mind. The philosophy behind the SD-1 was to commemorate the little moments of “Zen” and equilibrium in our overly-connected world and often busy daily routines.

DIETRICH chose the skin diver template for the SD-1 because it embodied the concept and message DIETRICH wanted to convey very well. We have likened this philosophy to being underwater, where our senses sharpen, and all we could hear are the calming sounds of the ocean as we feel the warmth of the subtle sunrays gleaming through the surface of the ocean. DIETRICH also incorporated several key design cues to subtly recreate, or at the very least, invoke the emotional sensations of tranquillity and “Zen” in which DIETRICH aims to capture with the SD-1.

For instance, one of the key design cues was the expansive usage of sapphire glass material on the dial and the bezel insert. When these surfaces catch the light, it represents the sunrays hitting the surface of the water. The luminous markers were printed directly onto the sapphire glass to give the dial some visual depth. The bezel was also specifically designed to include six individual grip points as a tribute to the hexagonal motifs of DIETRICH’s previous watches. Moreover, the hour and second-hands were taken from the Organic Time collection and the hexagonal bracelet was adapted from the Time Companion. These design elements, in unison, represent the evolution of DIETRICH as a brand as well as its strong desire to instill that sense of connection between the watch and the reality of its wearer’s daily lives.

Ultimately, DIETRICH hopes that the SD-1 would serve as a constant and gentle reminder to its wearers to never take the small little moments for granted, and to never stopping seeking out those moments of balance, contentment, and spiritual equilibrium.

The SD-1 is projected to go on sale later in early July 2021 (subject to no further technical changes), and will be made available in Pacific Blue and Suave Black variants. DIETRICH had also specifically designed a NBR rubber strap with a custom hexagonal motif and a signed buckle to pair with the SD-1. The rubber strap will be available in black or blue to match.
