Panerai forges ahead with its mission to bring more circular practices to the world of watchmaking with a Luminor Marina built from an innovative metal. The greatest of icons only become more remarkable with time, as appreciation for their history grows and they evolve to meet the needs of every new moment. Luminor, the most recognizable and legendary of Panerai collections, has established itself as one of these. For more than seven decades it has stood as the preeminent emblem of the Panerai brand.
Noted for being the very first model to feature the patented crown-protecting device, it has been at the forefront of the brand’s technical innovations and remains so today, becoming the first Panerai watch to feature one of the most remarkable technical achievements in the brand’s history: eSteelTM. Composed of recycled-based material, eSteelTM is an advancement that represents a step in Panerai’s commitment to reduce the need for virgin material extraction and its associated high environmental impact.
89g of the Luminor Marina eSteelTM components are made of recycled-based materials, corresponding to the 58,4% of the total weight of the watch (that is 152,4g). Both the case and dial of Luminor Marina eSteelTM feature the new recycled-based steel alloy. The challenges of developing the material were manifold. Foremost among these: the requirement that eSteelTM meets the same rigorous standards demanded of the steel cases that preceded it. eSteelTM exhibits the identical chemical behavior, physical structure and resistance to corrosion as a non-recycled alloy.
Creating eSteelTM is an achievement that required intense coordination at every stage of production between all the brand’s partners, some of whom had never before collaborated with a watch company.
The Luminor Marina eSteelTM features a brushed case with a polished bezel, a rubberized crown and the lever is personalized with the eSteelTM logo. The watches are available in three dial colors: Blu Profondo, Grigio Roccia and Verde Smeraldo, the last of which is exclusive to Panerai boutiques and e-commerce. Each features a polished dial with gradient color which goes from dark to light color, with the eSteelTM logo printed on it.
Calibre P.9010 is the movement found within the Luminor Marina eSteelTM. The automatic movement has a three-day power reserve and is designed and developed entirely by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The movement features a rapid adjustment system able to move the hour hand forward or backward in increments of one hour, independent of the minute hand.
Water-resistant to 30 bar (more than 300 meters deep), the Luminor Marina eSteelTM features a recycled textile strap that coordinates with its dial color, eSteelTM trapezoidal pin buckle, an additional strap and a storage box composed of recycled material.
